# Instrument Menu Function: Two tabs. About is the instrument's identity and current state, read from its last check-in with the interface. Settings holds what belongs to the instrument rather than to a scale or a preset: power, display and sound. The menu opens on the tab you last used. ### About Function: Everything here is read-only except the Updates switch and the reset link. #### Documentation Function: A link to the user manual for your model. #### Serial Function: The instrument's serial number, the number the Mutant shows on its screen at startup. #### Model Function: One or Mutant. #### Status Function: Online or offline. Online means the instrument has checked in recently, and shows the name of the network it is on and the WiFi band, 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz. #### Last connected Function: Shown only while the instrument is offline: when it last checked in, and on which network. #### Updates Function: A switch, enabled or disabled. Enabled, the instrument downloads firmware and scale updates when it shuts down. Disabled, it never does, and the word turns red. Click it to change. #### Firmware Function: The firmware version the instrument is running and the date it was last updated. When a newer release exists the row is highlighted and shows the latest version, with a note if the update is being held back because the battery is low and the charger is not connected. Patch notes opens the release history. #### Charger Function: Whether the charger is connected. #### Battery Function: The battery charge as a percentage, as of the last check-in. #### Operating time total Function: How long the instrument has been switched on over its lifetime. #### Operating time on battery Function: How much of that time was on battery power. #### Charging time Function: How long the instrument has spent charging over its lifetime. #### Hits *Dev.* Function: The lifetime count of hits the sensors have registered. #### Reset all settings to default Function: Puts every setting on the Settings tab and every slider in the Tone and Touch, MIDI Mapping, External Control, Audio Recording and Effects menus back to its factory value, and removes your saved slider presets, after asking you to confirm. Core settings and scales are not touched. #### Live log *Dev.* Function: The instrument's most recent log lines. ### Power Function: The automatic shutdown timers. Each runs from 10 to 65 minutes; the top of the range is off. #### Shutdown time in battery mode Tooltip: Set auto switch off duration when the battery charger is not connected. Function: Sets how long the instrument waits, idle and unplugged, before switching itself off to save the battery. #### Shutdown time when charger plugged in Tooltip: Set auto switch off duration when the battery charger is connected. Function: Sets how long the instrument waits, idle and on mains power, before switching itself off. ### Display Function: How the instrument and the interface show what you play. The two screen settings are Mutant only; the One has no screen. #### LCD contrast *Mutant only.* Function: Sets the contrast of the screen. #### Realtime note display *Mutant only.* Tooltip: Show the note name, degree, and chord structure on the instrument as you play. Function: Shows the note you play on the instrument's screen with its degree in the loaded scale, and the chord's degrees when several tonefields sound together. Switched off, the screen stays still while you play. #### Use Independent Solfege names Tooltip: Name notes by their Independent Solfege syllables, which do not use enharmonics, in the interface and on the instrument Function: Names every note by its Independent Solfege syllable instead of its letter: Do for C, Re for D, and a syllable of its own for each of the five notes that letters reach only with a sharp or a flat. The scale gallery, the scale builder and the screen all follow the switch. A syllable names a pitch class, so the lists of a scale's notes show it alone; wherever one note is shown, on the screen, in the scale builder and in the tonefield diagrams, the MIDI octave number follows it after a space, Re 4 where a letter would read D4. The scale builder's sharp or flat choice is hidden while the switch is on, since these names have no enharmonics. The MIDI Mapping menu and the builder's note-source list keep letter names with octaves, because they name MIDI notes and sample pitches. The instrument follows from firmware 7.2. ### Sound Function: What the instrument sounds like beyond the scale and the sound design: its reference pitch, and the tones it plays to confirm an action. #### Tuner (Hz) Tooltip: 440Hz reference. Takes effect when a scale loads. Function: Sets the reference pitch the whole instrument is tuned to, from 415.3 to 466.2 Hz, with 440 as standard. Use it to match an ensemble tuned away from concert pitch. The instrument applies it the next time a scale loads; the scale that is playing keeps its pitch until then. The default tuning setting is 440 Hz. You can adjust the tuning of the instrument up and down by half a note (down to 415 Hz and up to 466 Hz). #### Notification sounds Tooltip: Enable notification sound on instrument (scale loaded, etc..) Function: Plays a short confirmation tone on the instrument for events such as a scale finishing loading. Switch it off for performance, where the audience would hear it. When you load in a new scale, the instrument plays the base note of the scale after the successful loading. By turning off notification sounds, the scales will load in without giving any sounds. This feature is recommended for players who use the instrument a lot during live performances.
